New Husky is here - event wrap up
On May 14th, the long-awaited Aviat Husky, N914WY, arrived in Plymouth (KPYM). We had a great event at our hangar in Plymouth talking airplanes and eating some awesome “backcountry” barbecue! “The addition of this line of “adventure aircraft” compliments our Cirrus aircraft perfectly”, said Michael Goulian. He continued, “we strive to make MGAV a lifestyle and not just a place where people learn to fly”.
The Husky is a two-seat, high-wing airplane, designed specifically for pure stick & rudder flying off of grass runways and backcountry fields. There are so many opportunities to explore the grass runways in New England in our Husky and that’s what we plan to do with our customers.
“Transitioning into the Husky will provide people with the opportunity to fly in a manner they are not yet familiar with, however, learning to fly a tailwheel aircraft with large tundra tires is an experience not to be missed. It will simply make our pilots better aviators”, Goulian said.
Our Husky is the first in what we hope will become multiple aircraft that MGAV will use to create adventure trips where all of the aircraft will fly together to amazing locations around New England and the United States. Bentonville, Arkansas (https://www.flyoz.com/), Triple-Tree in South Carolina (https://tta.aero/), and even Idaho (https://idahoaviation.com/) are all locations we plan to explore in the future. Please call or email Ben Acker at (774) 283-1825 if you would like to learn more about the airplane and how to transition into this beautiful “fun machine”!.

Blue Angels Night: Dialogue with Legends
On the 21st of May, we hosted an exhilarating movie screening, featuring the highly anticipated film “The Blue Angels” exclusively for MGAV customers and our team. The event attracted many of our flying friends, and we were deeply honored to welcome two renowned former Blue Angel pilots as special guests, creating an unforgettable and educational evening for everyone.
We were extremely proud to welcome two distinguished Blue Angels pilots:
Capt (RET) Steve “Axel” Foley: Blue Angels Leader (Boss) from 2005 to 2006, hailing from Charlestown, MA. Captain Foley enjoyed a distinguished 26-year career in the Navy, accumulating 6,800 hours in Navy fighters and just under 1,000 carrier arrested landings. He also served two tours as a TOP GUN Instructor Pilot and completed six combat carrier deployments. Currently, he is an Executive Vice President at Solairus Aviation.
LCDR Cary “Chewy” Rickoff: Blue Angels solo pilot from 2019 to 2022, from Atlanta, GA. LCDR Rickoff has accumulated 2,800 hours in fighter aircraft and more than 185 carrier arrested landings. He is featured in the IMAX film as the #5 lead solo.
The evening’s activities included not only the screening of “The Blue Angels” but also an engaging Q&A session, where everyone had the opportunity to interact directly with Capt Foley and LCDR Rickoff. These two pilots shared their experiences and stories from their time with the Blue Angels, captivating the audience and receiving enthusiastic applause. They provided detailed explanations of various flying techniques and challenges, igniting everyone’s desire for the skies and encouraging all to strive for excellence.
The main take-away from the evening was: be humble in your pursuit of excellence in the cockpit. Leave your ego on the ground, and cherish the opportunity to engage with mentors so that you are always learning to be better on each and every flight.

Meet Deyuan Fan (Sam), Marketing Manager
Sam’s interest in flying began at age 4 with his first airline flight. Since then, he has always looked up to the sky whenever a plane passed by. His interest in propeller planes deepened during middle school. In high school, he frequently flew helicopters, gyrocopters, and powered paragliders with friends, making flying a part of his life.
Sam attended Concordia College in Minnesota for his undergraduate studies and earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Management. During the summer after his graduation, he obtained his Private Pilot License. He then moved to Boston and completed a graduate program in Project Management at Northeastern University while earning his tailwheel endorsement last summer.
In addition to aviation, Sam has a keen interest in racing. In 2018, he joined the Nissan Navara team to participate in the Taklamakan Desert Rally in Xinjiang, serving as a team sponsorship assistant. Furthermore, Sam got his PADI Open Water Diver certification during his undergraduate years and enjoys skiing, cycling, and surfing.
Sam joined the MGAV team in April 2024 and looks forward to contributing to our winning team, especially in our marketing and online presence. Welcome, Sam!
