Cirrus SR20 or SR22 Advanced Transition Course - IFR

5 days, or an additional 2 days after SR22 / SR20 Transition Training

The Cirrus IFR Transition Course is designed for instrument rated pilots who have never flown Cirrus Aircraft. The course will transition current and proficient instrument rated pilots into a Cirrus SR20 or SR22 with a high level of instrument competency. You will be trained in both normal and abnormal scenarios for VFR and IFR operations. Emphasis will be placed on flying in the IFR system.

New Cirrus pilots will obtain an Instrument Proficiency Check (IPC) sign off in conjunction with course completion.

Course content includes:

  • Cirrus Operational Characteristics
  • Maneuvering, Takeoffs, and Landings
  • Basic Attitude Instrument Flying
  • Avionics and autopilot usage
  • IFR operations, procedures, and instrument approaches
  • GPS, FMS, and WAAS (if applicable)
  • Aeronautical Decision Making (ADM) and Risk Management
  • Cross country flight planning and procedures
  • Abnormal and emergency procedures
  • Avionics malfunctions and abnormalities

Upon completion of the course, you will be able to:

  • Gain all skills included in the Transition Training course
  • Train for full utilization of your instrument rating while developing proficiency in:
  • Precision and non-precision approaches
  • Missed approaches
  • Holding patterns
  • Departure procedures
  • Arrival procedures
  • Approach proficiency with and without the autopilot
  • Safely accommodate complex ATC instructions while operating under IFR
  • Gain confident awareness regarding controlled flight into terrain
  • Maximize the aircraft’s safe utility by developing a higher level of flight proficiency during initial training

Cirrus SR20 or SR22 Advanced Transition Training Syllabus Averages:

  • 10 hours Cirrus Flight Time (8 hours minimum)
  • 12 Cross Country Legs (9 legs minimum)
  • 20 Landings (15 landings minimum)
  • 8 hours Ground Pre/Post Time (No minimum)
  • Pre-Training Assignments must be completed prior to transition training

Actual time requirements may vary depending on your previous flight experience.

After completion of the course, you will receive a course completion certificate.
