February 2026 Newsletter

As a CSIP working with Cirrus pilots in transition or recurrent training scenarios, a typical interaction concerning electrical problems goes something like this: I point out the window, and say, “Look – there’s the Goodyear blimp.” and switch off one of the alternators. In short order, a yellow CAS message like this appears:
“I’m going to pull and reset the ALT1/2 breaker and then turn the alternator switch on and off.” or
“I’m going to reduce electrical load right away, turn off the air conditioner, pull my iPad charger cable out.” or
“You should stop turning off switches in my airplane, I don’t like anyone doing that.”
Electrical CAS messages can quickly grab your attention, but are you responding the right way?
In this month’s feature, Lex Crosett breaks down common pilot reactions to electrical abnormalities in Cirrus aircraft and explains why mainting system controls is a discipline that can prevent bigger problems.
Thank you Lex for sharing this! He covers important concepts like understanding alternator roles to preparing for worst-case scenarios like dual alternator failure or over voltage events.
Being in good communication with your aircraft is one of the most important things to master and Lex does an awesome job at reminding us of this.
Below we have two ways you can go, click on the full article to read more of Pilot Lex Crosset’s story, and/or you can check out the approach course from Cirrus.
We hope everyone is staying warm! With all this snow rolling in, it’s the perfect time to revisit some key cold-weather flying fundamentals.
In this video, Michael shares practical cold-weather flying tips, maintenance considerations, and strategic planning advice to help you stay ahead of icing risks and operate confidently.
For instance:
Michael explains the importance of making sure to fly with adequate TKS fluid levels, making sure to fully understand FIKI limitations in the Cirrus SR22 and SR22T. He also reminds us that the SR20 is not approved for known icing.
He also reminds us to make sure we are double-checking pitot heat, stall vane heat, defrost, and overall anti-ice system functionality before every flight.

Where are we flying to eat today, Andrew?
We asked CFII Andrew Barr to share some of his favorite must fly to destinations from his travels with students, and we’re kicking off the series with Tobiko Sushi!
This right-on-the-field favorite is serving ramen, sushi, and hibachi.
Andrew (who can eat ten times his body weight… or at least we think so) makes it a point to bring every first solo student here. It’s become a tradition that we are happy to share with you, and one we highly recommend.
Because every great landing definitely deserves sushi.
We wanted to start this series because we wanted to remind you of what it means to fly. It opens the world. New airports. New destinations. New restaurants. Right there beyond the horizon.

It is my pleasure to introduce you all to our Bedford Customer Service Representative Casey Brown.
Casey grew up moving all around the South Shore. His mom worked as a superintendent all around these areas overseeing the school systems. So community and education has always been a big part of his life. Being the baby of the family (and the youngest of 3 brothers, all in aviation!), he was inspired at an early age to take to the skies.
He’s the outdoorsy type, so when he’s not flying he’s hiking, snowboarding, or surfing with his brothers, and pretty much anything that gets him outside. Casey went on to study engineering at UMass Amherst, but aviation pulled at him in a different direction, even though he says engineering helped him a lot in the pivot into his current role.
I asked Casey what was his favorite part about working here is and he told me this…
“I’m grateful every day for a job where I can really laugh. I genuinely laugh more here than at any other job I have ever had. I’m surrounded by like minded people, truly feels like a community aligned by passion”.
Welcome to the family Casey!
