01/ Flight of a Lifetime - Crossing the Atlantic in a Cirrus G7 SR22 with Luis Garcia

Last September, MGAV pilot and aircraft owner, Luis E. Garcia de Brigard tackled the flight of a lifetime, flying his Cirrus SR22T from the United States to his home in Spain. Luis and his expert ferry pilot (who flies full-time with the airlines) planned to follow the cross-ocean route in use since the days of WWII for moving allied bomber and fighter aircraft to England to join the allied war effort.
Luis stopped in Bangor, ME, to clear Customs, and then on to Goose Bay in Newfoundland, Canada. Flying his newly acquired G7 SR22T, Luis and his co-pilot climbed up to 25,000ft to avoid weather between Canada and Greenland, and the aircraft’s FIKI system gave them peace of mind as they descended through some cold and wet clouds on their descent. Tailwinds were favorable for their over-water legs, and they achieved ground speeds of nearly 300kts – Luis has the photos to prove it. Their next stop was Narsarsuaq, Greenland, where they refueled and waited out an icy weather system for three days. Once the weather cleared, they departed in the morning for Reykjavik, Iceland (BIRK), where they refueled and made the last major over-water leg to Wick, Scotland, GB, landing in the evening with ample to time to celebrate with a Scottish ale at a local pub. Stay tuned for a video interview where Luis shares more details about his adventure with us.
Luis credits the instruction he received at Mike Goulian Aviation for preparing him for his transatlantic flight but he epitomizes the addage that a “good pilot is always learning,” having completed his tailwheel endorsement and the MGAV upset recovery course in the summers before departing on his flight.
You’ll see Luis around at our Plymouth and Hanscom hangars this summer, be sure to ask him about his amazing adventure. If you’ve ever wanted to fly the Atlantic, let us know, we can help you on your path to achieving that special aviation milestone. At Mike Goulian Aviation, we love to help our pilots achieve their aviation dreams.

02/ "Flying Friendly" - February's Pro-Tip: Noise Abatement Procedures at KBED and KPYM
Noise abatement is a subject that can be easily overlooked during pilot training. We put effort into learning about aircraft systems, navigation, airspace, weather, and regulations. We spend hours and hours perfecting maneuvers and landings. It is very easy for topic of noise abatement procedures to slip through the cracks.
Many airports face challenges from surrounding communities as more and more houses are built around them. Most residents who live adjacent to airports are not even aware that the airport exists until they start seeing and hearing airplanes flying overhead. What can we do to be good neighbors and help minimize our impact on the surrounding community? One easy step we can take is to follow the noise abatement procedures for the airports where we frequently fly. As pilots, we have the responsibility of being the best aviation ambassadors we can be to help be part of the solution.
In February’s Pro-Tip, we will review the procedures for both KBED and KPYM as you’re more than likely training out of one of those two airports. Continue reading the Pro-Tip here.

03/ ICYMI: G7 Factory Demo Experience at KBED
During the weekend of February 22nd & 23rd, Mike Goulian Aviation was proud to host a series of Cirrus G7 demo flights. Conducted by Cirrus factory pilot Jasmine Harvey, we had a break in the fickle New England weather for six demo flights provided to interested Mike Goulian Aviation clients.
By Spring, Mike Goulian Aviation will be welcoming two new Cirrus G7 SR20 aircraft into our growing fleet, giving you a chance to fly with all the new features the G7 has to offer, like the advanced Perspective Touch+ Garmin avionics, flight envelope protection and the new auto-fuel selector. If you haven’t flown the G7 yet, schedule a demo flight with your instructor to see how quickly the touchscreen controls become intuitive. We anticipate additional new G7 aircraft being added to our fleet during the year.
Thank you to Cirrus for selecting Mike Goulian Aviation for this demo experience and we look forward to hosting more events in 2025 so you can experience the G7.
04/ Meet CFII Carolyn Coviello
Carolyn Coviello is one of our newest Mike Goulian Aviation flight instructors, based at our KBED location.
Carolyn grew up in southern New Hampshire, but spent a lot of her time with her extended family in Massachusetts. Her passion for aviation took flight at the age 13 when she experienced her first airline flight to Europe. Inspired by that journey, she spent her summers teaching swim lessons and pursuing her Private Pilots license at a small flight school in Nashua, NH.
Carolyn earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Aviation Operations and Management from Southern New Hampshire University, where she further honed her aviation skills and knowledge. In 2021, she joined MGAV as a Customer Service Representative and Line Service Technician (CSR/LST), and quickly became an integral part of the team. Following the completion of her PPL, IFR, & COMM ratings, Carolyn returned to MGAV to pursue her Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) and Certified Flight Instructor – Instrument (CFII) ratings.
With a love for teaching and a strong foundation in both flying and customer service, Carolyn is eager to continue sharing her passion for aviation with others. When she’s not flying, Carolyn enjoys spending time reading, traveling and inspiring those around her to chase their own dreams of flight.
05/ Event Alert: IAC Seminar March 16th
If you’ve ever wondered what it takes to control an airplane outside its normal operating envelope, Mike Goulian Aviation has decades of combined experience teaching private pilots aerobatic flying skills.
MGAV is also part of the local aerobatics community, and we will be hosting the New England Aerobatic Club’s (IAC Chapter 35) monthly meeting at our Plymouth hangar (KPYM) on Saturday, March 16th from 10:30AM – 2:30PM. Attending this seminar qualifies for FAA WINGS program credit. Register for the event in advance here.
Our founder, Michael Goulian, has been competing in professional aerobatics since the 1980s will be the meeting’s keynote speaker, presenting on the normalization of deviance and sharing strategies for risk management in aviation.
At MGAV our team of experienced aerobatic CFIs are ready to help you safely go beyond the unusual attitudes you practiced for your private pilot checkride. Out of our KPYM location, we offer basic and advanced aerobatic instruction to get you started on your path to a whole new world of flying fun and adventure.

06/ New Reservation System at KTEB
Teterboro (KTEB) remains a popular airport destination for MGAV pilots. Located just west of Manhattan and north of Newark Airport, KTEB is one of the busiest Class Delta airpaces in the Northeast. If you’re headed to KTEB, take note of the new required reservations for landing at the airport if you’ll be using Signature Aviation FBO services. There are no fees to make a reservation with Signature, however a fee will be awaiting you if you don’t make one prior to landing.
Signature Aviation intends for the reservation system to reduce your taxi times and wait times for their services, enhancing your experience. Make your reservation on their website, or by calling their guest experience team at 201-288-1880.
