01 / Fly More with "2 For Tuesdays"
At MGAV, we have a beautiful fleet of aircraft that are so incredibly capable and we want our customers to enjoy the fleet for more than just obtaining new ratings. Historically, we have the most aircraft availability on Tuesdays so we are lowering our required daily minimums from 3 hours to 2 hours on Tuesdays. We hope this will help you take trips to many destinations in New England, New York and New Jersey that are better suited to a 2-hour roundtrip flight. Locations such as Teterboro NJ, Lebanon NH, Brunswick ME, and many more can be flown to and from KBED or KPYM easily within the two hour minimum.
Make your Tuesday reservation on Flight Schedule Pro, call (774-283-1825) or email Ben Acker to schedule your flight today!
02 / Pro-Tip of the Month: Flying in Winter
It is officially winter here in New England and while there are still plenty of sunny winter days, the air temperatures aloft are typically below freezing, setting up a scenario for icing conditions if you’re flying in IMC.
Whenever we’re planning flight through visible moisture (clouds & precip) with freezing temperatures, we must consider the possibility of icing. Airframe icing increases the weight of the aircraft and reduces lift due to wing contamination. It should, therefore, be regarded as a consistent hazard to consider when flying in IMC in below freezing temperatures.
The Cirrus SR22 and SR22T (that’s T for Turbocharged) are both equipped and certified for flight into known icing (or FIKI). This means that the SR22 and SR22T have anti-icing systems that consist of heated surfaces like pitot tubes, and an anti-ice fluid distribution system that provides icing protection to critical parts of the aircraft such as the wings, tail, and propeller. The fluid in this system is an anti-ice fluid called TKS fluid (named after the company that originally produced it) and it works by lowering the freezing point of water making it harder for ice to form on the protected surfaces. Also, since MGAV operates numerous SR20s, please note, they are not FIKI certified therefore not approved for flight in icing conditions.
It goes without saying that winter pre-flight planning and preparation should aim to mitigate the risk of inflight icing. Cirrus pilots of FIKI certified aircraft are required to complete Cirrus Icing Awareness training at least once every two years. 03 / MGAV Fleet Update: Rent a G7 SR22 Turbo (KPYM)
In November, we welcomed a new Cirrus G7 SR22 Turbo to the MGAV fleet, based at our KPYM location. It will be the first G7 Turbo available for rental and we welcome you to learn all about the advantages of operating a turbo-charged powerplant with our CFI team standing by to teach you everything you need to know.
There are a few nuances to operating the turbo – and combined with the new features of the G7 avionics – this is a very potent cross-country machine, easily capable of cruising above 12,000 feet. Thanks to Cirrus, we can offer a few complimentary Cirrus Approach courses to help you transition into the G7 SR22T. Book instruction time with our CFIs and we will take you beyond the numbers, to help you get the most out of your SR22T flying. Contact Ben to learn more.

05 / Short-Final: Helena's Dream Realized
Congratulations to MGAV pilot Helena D’Angelo, who celebrated her birthday in style by completing her instrument check ride and then going to Knoxville to pick up her dream G7 SR22T a few days later. This customized SR22T, which Cirrus calls their Xi program, allows customers to personalize their aircraft. In addition to the unique paint scheme and interior, Helena added the names of her CFIs to the side of the airplane – each in its own star on the side of N222HD. This one-of-a-kind bespoke Cirrus Xi paint scheme will turn heads on the ramp everywhere she flies. Congratulations Helena!
