Meet the new G7 Cirrus
The next evolution in Cirrus Aircraft has arrived! With much anticipation and fanfare, Cirrus held a global launch of their latest SR generation on January 11th. The new G7 SR Platform takes its inspiration from the Cirrus SF50 Vision Jet. The new avionics and jet-inspired safety features will not only make flying the new G7 an amazing experience, but also will make a more seamless transition for those pilots wanting to transition into the jet.
Improved pilot experience includes:
- Updated avionics: the Perspective Touch+. The PDF & MFD offer a split screen option to view up to 3 separate windows. And, two Garmin touchscreen controllers (GTC) replace the Flight Management System console, nav/com panel, back up instruments and more.
- Updated interior: with a center console Environmental Control System (ECS), better storage, passenger jacks and USB-C ports on either side of the seats in the back and a jet-like yoke and throttle.
- Lower glare shield for greater visibility and a great site picture.
- Simplification: Cirrus removed the avionics and nav light switches and no more key – push button start.
- Weight reduction.
- Increased safety: an automatic fuel selector, stick shaker, and flap speed inhibitor if your speed is too fast or too slow the flaps won’t deploy.
We will have our first G7 SR20 for training and rental later this winter. More G7s to come later in the year.

Meet David Cruz-Merino, CFII
David was born and raised in Massachusetts. He has been passionate about aviation since the age of 8 when he went to El Salvador to visit family. He began flight training and earned his private pilot’s license while he was in college. After college he began working as a Surgical First Assistant to pay for the rest of the certificates needed to become a professional pilot. After realizing he needed to fly more often in order to finish his training, he decided to quit his job and study full time. Once completing all of his training, he instructed at ATP flight school before joining Mike Goulian Aviation. David is excited to continue to share his passion for flying with our team.
Question for David: Have you ever been told you look like someone famous?
Answer: Nope
Side note: Karin said that I look like “Ponch” from the old tv show, CHiPs. Ben and Karin had to explain who that was :)!

“Children of the Magenta”
Are you a “Child of the magenta”? This phrase comes from a very popular video you can find on youtube about Automation Dependency. The video is from a 1997 American Airlines training class taught by well-know American Airlines, Captain Warren Vanderburgh. In today’s world of TAA, we can all become over reliant on automation to the point that if we are not deliberate in our approach to hand flying in IFR occasions with some regularity, our skills can erode to the point where we use automation more as a crutch than a safety aid. This video should become part of every recurrent training event we do as a pilots of Cirrus Aircraft. MGAV Owner, Michael Goulian watches this video every so often as a reminder on how to better manage our interaction with aircraft automation. We hope you love the video. Let us know what you think after you watch it.
