October 2021: Fall Travel Tips, PALS & More
DISCOVER LACONIA
Check out KLCI during fall!
Our newest location in Laconia (KLCI) is known for many things, and this time of year it’s the amazing fall colors that will take your breath away! (And yes, one of our CFIIs captured this image after departing KLCI!)
Fly into KLCI this fall to experience the beauty of the White Mountains and the changing leaves. If you fly up from KPYM or KBED, we can arrange to loan you our pick up truck to go for lunch!
Our fleet is available for current Cirrus pilots to rent or book pilot services for a day to experience the fall colors from the air.
Here are some other fun suggestions when flying New England! Our team members from KLCI have put together some awesome suggestions for you if you decide to visit the area!
- Fly the NH-VT border – start in Haverhill NH (5B9), fly south along the Connecticut River to Hartford-Brainard (KHFD) – Try the USS Chowder Pot, or other Hartford downtown restaurants!
- Keene, NH (KEEN) – Mama McDonough’s Irish Pub
- Sanford, ME (KSFM) – Pilot’s Cove Cafe
Here’s one of our KLCI students his final approach above Lake Winnipesaukee in NH!
In-Focus: Awesome pilots team up with non-profit Patient Airlift Services (PALS)
Pilot and PALS volunteer Mark Hanson (right) flies family to medical appointment in one of our Cirrus aircraft.
Patient Airlift Services (PALS) is a non-profit dedicated to assisting those in need of transportation to medical diagnosis, treatment or follow-up appointments who cannot do so on their own means or who cannot fly commercially.
Several of our awesome renters and Cirrus owners are volunteers! Mark Hanson and Bill Goldenthal are two pilots who work with PALS to get patients where they need to be. Mark has flown over 250 flights for PALS and says “I found my why. Why do I spend the time to train and have access to these wonderful planes? It is simple, the appreciation of those we serve when we volunteer for organizations like Patient Airlift Services.”
Bill started volunteering in March 2021 and believes volunteering his time is a great way to give back when he felt ready to fly others. “It’s quite personal and humbling as you’re dealing directly with individuals or families who find themselves in very difficult circumstances. Witnessing the impact of this small contribution of our time and resources motivates those involved to do as much as they can.” Bill credits his PALS involvement to a fellow MGAV student, Kaden Green, who inspired him to use his resources to help others.
Mike Goulian Aviation is proud to support all of our renters and aircraft owners who participate in PALS! If interested, learn more about the program here.

Benefits of Trim during Landing
A few clicks of aft trim before roundout and flare should be helpful to counteract the forward trim applied during traffic pattern configuration changes. 3-4 clicks should keep your landings slick!
Easier said than done, right? We’ve all struggled our way through rough landings, leaving us frustrated and wanting to do one more to end our flight on a good note.
There sure is a lot of value in taking our shiny birds out on a calm wind day and practicing a few landings in the pattern to keep proficient. But how many of us are using incorrect techniques over and over again, then turning them into…. bad habits?
Read Prassuna’s full break-down on how adding 3-4 clicks can set you up for success!
